Yellow with white flesh, we are huge fans of this forgotten giant heirloom that looks rather like Harry Potter’s mandrakes! Once known as the ‘scarcity root’ for its abundance when there is little other food around. Halfway between sugar beet and beetroot this easy to grow root is sweeter and less earthy than a beetroot and will sit for a long time in the field where it will also provide abundant greens.
